Laser Hair Removal FAQs

The Diolaze system is unique in that it combines power, speed and cooling to provide a fast, effective and comfortable laser hair removal experience.

1. Will hair bumps and razor bumps be gone?

This is one of the great beneficial side effects of laser hair removal. Reduction of hair bumps and ingrown hairs will be markedly noticeable even after your first session. We have seen this on all body parts including face, neck, bikini line, legs, backs and underarms.

2. Can blonde, gray or light hair be removed?

Lighter hair is very difficult for the laser to treat because the pigment in the hair is what attracts the laser beam in order to destroy the hair growth. Dark haired clients with fair skin are the easiest clients to treat, but we would love to see you for a free consultation to let you know if you are a good candidate.

3. Can I be tanned, use a tanning bed or spray on tan while I’m having laser sessions?

We understand that many people use self-tanners and spray tanners, however we cannot treat you with a laser while it is on your skin. When scheduling your laser hair removal treatments please be sure that you have allowed enough time for all of the artificial tanner to be gone from your skin. You are able to use self-tanners/spray tan immediately following your laser hair removal treatment

Tanned skin, whether from being outside or using a tanning bed is different because the skin is actually tanned darker than usual. For the safest results, we need you to be as close to your natural color as possible. Tanning is not allowed for two weeks before the treatment or two weeks after having laser hair removal.

4. Can I continue to wax or pluck when I’ve started laser treatments?

Waxing and tweezing must be avoided for six weeks before treatment. Shaving is permitted and actually encouraged before treatment.

5. Can I treat my eyebrows?

It is dangerous to treat close to the eye with the diode laser. Actually, Georgia law prohibits laser hair removal within one inch of the orbit of the eye.

6. When can I resume my normal activities after laser hair removal?

You may apply makeup and return to social activities immediately after treatment.

7. Which ethnicities can you treat with this system?

We treat most skin types.  During your consultation appointment we will determine if you are a good candidate for this treatment.

8. I’ve been shopping around for laser hair removal and have been told so many things. How do I know what to believe?

About Face Skin Care is a company with a long standing tradition of excellence.  We would do nothing to jeopardize our reputation or your safety and skin.  When you choose About Face Skin Care, you are choosing 14 years of proven safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction. We boast an incredible staff of certified laser professionals and brand new state of the art technology.

9. What type of results should I expect?

A lot less hair and shaving! We’re well aware of the many empty and misleading claims made by other clinics offering laser hair removal, including the declaration that you’ll never shave again. The truth is you should see an 80-90 percent reduction in hair growth. The follicles that remain are damaged and produce a finer hair than you had before laser treatment. You can expect to shave much less than you do now. Some of our patients shave once a week, some once a month; some don’t have to shave at all. One thing we can say for sure, each of our clients is pleased with his or her results. About two to three weeks after your first session, you will begin to notice less hair, slower-growing hair and even some hair falling out.

10. I am a person of color and have heard I should not have laser treatments because of the risk of burning or scarring of the skin. Is this true?

While this once was the case, we’re happy to report that using new laser technology has yielded a safe experience for clients with darker skin types. Uniquely designed lasers protect the skin while achieving excellent hair removal results. And, as we reduce the hair growth, we even can reduce the pigmentation changes (caused by ingrown hairs) that commonly arise in people of color. The pigmentation on the skin that is caused by ingrown hairs will be markedly reduced after laser hair removal.

11. Regarding pregnancy and nursing can I still consider laser hair removal?

We do not to treat pregnant patients. Should you become pregnant during laser hair removal sessions, we simply finish your package after you deliver. We do, however, treat nursing women.

12. Are all medications safe during laser treatments?

We screen all of our patients to be certain they are not taking Accutane. Typically, medications that cause light sensitivity are okay to use with the treatment, but be sure to report all medications and supplements to your provider.

13. Is herpes an issue during laser hair removal?

We suggest our patients with a history of genital herpes, who are treating their bikini area, take Valtrex to prevent an outbreak. There seems to be a slightly increased incidence of herpes outbreaks in patients with a history of genital herpes. Similarly, for patients with a history of frequent fever blisters on their lips, who are having treatment on the lip or chin, we recommend the same antiviral preventative measures. If we have seen you in consultation, we are able to prescribe the medication for you, or you may get a prescription from your personal physician.

14. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) will laser hair removal work for me?

Yes, and it works quite well.  PCOS patients are women who have a “hormonal issue” that results in a male pattern of hair growth. Laser hair removal will get reduction of anywhere from 60-80% of hair growth.  Our goal is to reduce the maintenance that you have to do substantially, and reduce the growth of unwanted facial hair tremendously. We tell all of our PCOS patients to expect to do touch up sessions anywhere from two to three times per year after completing a package. These women also have increased hair growth on other body parts including the back, buttocks, neck and more and we can treat these areas as well.

15. Does laser hair removal hurt?

This is one of the most exciting facts about the Diolaze system. The laser head is designed to provide pre, during and post treatment cooling to the skin to provide a painless treatment. In the rare event that a client is sensitive to the treatment, we do have a numbing cream that may be applied to the skin before treatment, barring any allergies to the medication. This may be discussed during your consultation.

16. How soon should I expect to see results?

Usually you will see results within two to three weeks after your first session.  Many of our patients see a big difference after their first session with some reporting a 50% reduction in hair, but experience has taught us that they will see regrowth and they will use the eight sessions in our package.
