IPL Photofacial Treatment

As of November 2023, our practice discontinued IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments and introduced an advanced technology called Excel V+ by Cutera. To learn more about Excel V+, please click here!
Below we’ve outlined the key differences between IPL and Excel V+ technologies.
IPL
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a broad-spectrum light to target various skin concerns, such as hyperpigmentation, redness, and uneven skin texture. While effective, IPL may cause mild discomfort—often compared to the snap of a rubber band. IPL is generally best suited for lighter skin tones due to the risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation.
Excel V+
The Excel V+ laser system by Cutera features the advanced CoolView handpiece and is designed to treat both vascular and pigmented lesions. It includes three different treatment modalities that address concerns such as rosacea, sunspots, and visible veins—along with deeper pigmentation issues.
Excel V+ delivers higher pulse energy than IPL, improving efficiency and results in fewer sessions. Sensations vary—some patients report a gentle warmth or mild heat, while others describe a rubber band-like snap. Its integrated cooling system minimizes discomfort and enhances the experience.
Excel V+ is also more inclusive—safely treating a wider range of skin tones, including melanin-rich skin. With dual wavelengths (532nm and 1064nm), it targets everything from sun damage to vascular conditions and general skin rejuvenation with precision and safety.
