Juvéderm® is a soft tissue filler, or dermal filler, that is made out of “sugar gels”. Sugar gels are repeating units of hyaluronic acid sugar. The hyaluronic acid sugar gels have become the most commonly injected filler product in the world. The reason they are so commonly injected is that they are well tolerated by the body and the longevity of the product.

Juvederm® is a substance that is injected into the face to fill in volume loss.  Juvederm® is made of hyaluronic acid which is a “water magnet.”  This means the injected product draws water from surrounding tissue to fill in slack areas in tissue or to enhance areas like lips.  There are different types of Juvederm®, including Juvederm Ultra®, Juvederm Ultra Plus®, Juvederm Voluma®, Juvederm Vollure®, and Juvederm Volbella®.  Each of these products has a different “recipe” of hyaluronic acid that will draw more or less volume to an area.  The RN’s at About Face Skin Care have been injecting these products since 2009 and go through continuing education programs annually to maintain Master Certification status.  They are highly skilled in choosing the correct product to provide the correction or enhancement you are looking for.

How is Juvéderm® injected?

All Juvéderm® products come in prepackaged, 1cc sterile syringes.  Depending on the type of treatment, the provider will select the product and injection technique.  In some cases, a blunt tip canula will be used to place the product under the skin.  The advantage to the canula is that there is typically no bruising in the area treated.  Often, the treatment will be injected with a very small, sterile needle.

Are Juvederm® injections painful?

The Juvederm® products are mixed with a lidocaine component making them relatively comfortable when injecting and after treatment.  We will numb you topically for a while before the treatment to make you even more comfortable.  If you have anxiety about the treatment or have a low tolerance for discomfort, we have the ProNox nitrous oxide system that may be used to help you relax and feel more comfortable.

Who is a candidate for Juvéderm® soft tissue filler injections?

Candidates for Juvéderm® injections are those individuals who have lost volume and proportion of the face or back of the hands.  This may be a result of aging or facial movements that have created deep lines or furrows.

Juvederm® candidates may also be those who want to enhance features.  For example, lips may be injected with the product to look fuller.  The chin may be injected to create more projection.  The jawline is a common area that is injected to create the illusion of a firmer, more distinguished jawline.

A good candidate for Juvéderm® is realistic about the type of correction, volume and shape that may be achieved with an injectable filler. Often, good candidates will undergo a combination of treatments at About Face Skin Care.  Combining technology like Botox®, Fractora, Collagen Induction Therapy (Microneedling), and/or Lumecca IPL can be even more beneficial in providing a natural, youthful result.

Who would not be a good candidate for Juvederm®

Clients who need to avoid Juvéderm® injections would be those who had an allergic reaction to Juvéderm® in the past, which is exceedingly rare and usually due to the cross-linking material rather than the Juvéderm® itself. Other contraindications would be patients who might be pregnant or patients with inflammation, infection or skin cancer in the area of injection.

How long does the Juvéderm® soft tissue filler injection take?

The Juvéderm® injection procedure takes approximately 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the amount of product injected and the areas it is injected into.

How long is the recovery following a Juvéderm® filler injection?

The recovery following a Juvéderm® injection depends on the areas injected and the amount of products injected, as well as the patient and age of the patient. Individuals who have not been taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, like ibuprofen, seven days before the treatment.  There may be a bit of swelling or bruising, but most clients are able to return to work and social activities immediately.

What kind of results can I expect with my Juvéderm® soft tissue filler injection?

Depending on the number of syringes, a patient can be satisfied with having a refreshed look or be brought to full correction. Combining soft tissue fillers with other services (combination therapy), patients in their 40’s & older can often look 8 – 10 years younger.

What are patients saying about their Juvéderm® injections at About Face Skin Care?

About Face Skin Care injectable clients are typically very happy. About Face Skin Care has been injecting fillers for well over ten years. Over 90% of all filler injection patients return to About Face Skin Care for additional treatment. Our clients realize they are receiving the artistry and expertise that leaves their face looking natural and refreshed, rather than over injected. We never want to see “filler face” in our clients. You can find injectable filler and Juvéderm® injection practices anywhere, but very few have the overall expertise and knowledge of About Face Skin Care.

How long will the results of my Juvéderm® last?

Depending on the product used, the results of Juvéderm® injection may last up to two years. Juvéderm® Voluma™ is the longest-lasting Juvéderm® product and is often used for volume shaping of the face, hands and volumization of the lips. In general, most patients get volume shaping once a year and return for re-injection every 12 to 14 months to maintain the optimal soft tissue proportion, shape and smoothness.

Is there any maintenance required?

Injectable fillers and facial shape and proportion in general are a temporary thing. As we age, there are enzymes that break down our normal collagen and elastin, as well as the hyaluronic acid in our skin. Hyaluronidases are natural degradation sugar enzymes inside our bodies and cells will break down the Juvéderm® product over time. Thus, most patients who enjoy nice post-soft tissue Juvéderm® contour and shape will return once a year for volumization and restoration. Highly-animated areas, such as the lips, tend not to last as long as un-animated areas and require re-injection sooner.

How much will my Juvéderm® soft tissue filler injection cost?

About Face Skin Care, as one of the area’s highest-volume injection practices, is able to pass along excellent pricing from our manufacturers to our Juvéderm® clients.
